Background:
MSMEs in Egypt suffer from limited access to finance through formal financial institutions, which focus on serving larger established companies. The Government and the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) are putting pressure on banks to reach more SMEs with credit as well as other financial products. With 6.4 million enterprises (formal and informal sectors), Egypt has by far the largest MSMEs market in the Middle East and North Africa region.
Background:
The Government of Egypt has applied for financing by KfW Development Bank (“KfW") through an Executing Agency for funds to be borne by a special study and consultancy fund provided for such purposes by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The Micro Small Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSME-DA), acting as the implementing agency, intended to use this funding for the cost of a feasibility study under Financing for MSME Financing III / Microfinance.
