M&E Expert for Promotion of MSMEs in the agribusiness sector in Ghana

Ghana belongs to the group of lower middle-income countries. In the last decade, the country has experienced stable economic growth, accompanied by a reduction in the poverty rate. In 2016, about 13 % of the population lived on less than USD 1.90 per day. An additional 3.8 million people are expected to fall into poverty, at least temporarily, as a result of the Corona crisis.

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development has commissioned the three years programme “Green Economy and Sustainable Private Sector Development in Kyrgyzstan” (GESPSD) which started in June 2020 and will last until May 2023. The GIZ Programme “Promotion of Sustainable Economic Development in Kyrgyzstan”, which was the predecessor of the GESPSD, supported private sector development in promoting value chain development, implementing elements of Green Economy and creating framework conditions at the macro level.

Mobilising private investments in decentralised renewable energy is key for realising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement. Also, lowering barriers for financing for renewable energy is an important steppingstone to build back better after the current COVID-19 crisis. RE technologies have become increasingly commercially viable and are the least expensive and most feasible option to provide millions of people with clean and affordable energy.
