Market Oriented Agriculture Programme (MOAP)

Ghana is an emerging middle-income country. Agriculture still plays an important role in the socio-economic development of the country, despite it’s relative, compared to other sectors slow growth.

The sector account for a quarter of GNP, employs 44% of the country's workforce, secures the extensive supply of basic food and provides a large part of national export earnings. Small businesses generate almost 80% of total agricultural production. Productivity and product quality are low, especially in small businesses. The horticulture sector in Ghana is ambitious, but internationally little competitive. Overall, the quality of production in the agricultural sector is low.
