
The objective of the project to improve the regulatory, technical and financial framework conditions for the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of high Andean wetlands (understanding wetlands as the whole “Páramo” ecosystem and considering a special focus on wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar convention).
The target group is the predominantly poor rural population in selected landscapes in the high Andean provinces of Cotopaxi, Tungurahua, Chimborazo and Cañar, as well as Bolívar and Azuay.
Tasks of the expert
- Support in organizing and coordinating the innovation contest and call for proposals for nature+ businesses in the area of the module, as well as the selection of the winners together with the team and counterparts (mixed jury).
- Strengthen the capacities of actors and beneficiaries in the module’s intervention area in Cañar in nature+ business models and sustainable production techniques
- Identify companies that work or could work with the modules’ beneficiaries to implement nature+ business models in the provinces of Azuay and Cañar (and potentially Loja).
- Advise on and build capacities for local stakeholders and counterparts on nature+ business models that prioritize the participation of women and youth
- Provide information and ensure impact monitoring of the work conducted as well as regular and timely reporting
- Establish collaborative relationships with partners, non-governmental organizations and institutional bodies at local and regional levels to develop and implement project actions
- Participate actively in coordinated activities with the GIZ team at national and local level, with local governments, local organisations and private actors
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in agricultural or veterinary sciences, agronomy or comparable disciplines and master’s or a major in agribusiness, agricultural engineering, sustainable production or related
- Knowledge of English, A2-level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and Spanish language skills, C2 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
- 4 years of professional experience in organic farming, sustainable tourism or purple economy projects
- 3 years of professional experiences in advisory support and capacity building for SMMEs in sustainable production, business and value chain development
- 6 years of professional experience in the Andean Highlands Region (Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile or Argentina)
- 2 years of experience in development cooperation projects
- 2 years of experience working with Autonomous Decentralized Governments (GAD)
