Agriculture was the main provider of jobs and livelihoods for Anbar’s rural and semi-rural population. The occupation and the fight against IS have led to widespread destruction of infrastructure and large-scale internal population displacement. The productive and social infrastructure in rural, semi-urban and urban areas has been severely damaged or destroyed, and, for a large part of the population, important prerequisites for peaceful social coexistence, livelihoods and income generation are not met.

Der landwirtschaftliche Sektor hat traditionell eine hohe Bedeutung für die ukrainische Volkswirtschaft. Bedingt durch positive Boden- und Klimaverhältnisse und durch die gesetzten politischen Rahmenbedingungen erreichte der Agrarsektor 1990 einen Anteil am Bruttosozialprodukt (BSP) von rund 25%.

Nach dem Zusammenbruch der Sowjetunion im Jahre 1990 und bedingt durch den immensen Strukturwandel nahm die landwirtschaftliche Produktion kontinuierlich ab und erreichte im Jahr 2006 einen Tiefpunkt mit nur noch 7,5 % Anteil am BSP.

Markets and Seeds Access Project in Zambia and Zimbabwe

The overall goal of the programme is to improve resilience in food security of smallholder households (especially women and youth) by increasing adoption and utilisation of improved open and self-pollinated varieties of small grains (sorghum and millets) and legumes (cowpeas and groundnuts) through strengthening the seed and commodity value chains in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
