Agriculture & Agribusiness Innovation Network Nigeria (AgrInNet)

The objective of the project is to enhance the identification and implementation of innovations along the maize, rice, potato and cassava value chains in seven federal states of Nigeria.

Intervention area 1: Development of ICT-supported and face-to-face value chain platforms for innovation management & competence development

  • Advice and accompany partners at the federal level in the design and implementation of ICT based innovation platforms
  • Support the creation of a database structure for the documentation of innovations and other information media
  • Support value chain state actors at the level of the federal states in designing value chain specific face-to-face platforms
  • Identify the elaboration of concepts and formats on how to identify, evaluate and spread innovations

     

Intervention area 2: Supporting value chain actors (input suppliers; producers; processors; traders) in accessing and benefiting from innovations (capacity development and training)

  • Conduct a mapping study for the selected value chains and elaborate value chain specific action plans in collaboration with federal and state partners as well as the private sector
  • Elaborate education and training material for value chain actors, including contract farming, quality assurance, certification, taking into consideration the integration of cross-cutting issues (e.g. gender, youth, climate change)
  • Develop and distribute interactive learning and information materials
  • Support the establishment of a pool of master trainers and ensure the quality and sustainability of skills training
  • Support public and private education and training institutions in the provision of capacity development support for value chain actors (including embedded services)
  • Advise public and private ATVET institutions in the marketing and adjustment of their capacity development offer
  • Advise producer groups in the application of production technology innovations and is business skills development (farmer business school)
  • Support food processing SME in the introduction of processing and quality standards and strengthen their business skills

     

Intervention area 3: Making use of innovations to build inclusive business models, creating “win-win” scenarios

  • Support the identification of public-private and private-private innovation partnerships and accompany their implementation on a technical and organizational level
  • Support business models for suppliers in the respective value chains
  • Develop and implement concepts for contract farming in the selected value chains
  • Develop and support the implementation of business models for SME, expressively for women and youth
  • Support value chain actors in implementing transparent marketing concepts
  • Identify financing concepts for value chain actors and support the cooperation with financial service providers (including loans, insurance)

Project steering and M&E

  • Support the cooperation with German and international agricultural private sector, the Nigerian private sector and the global initiative „One World with-out Hunger“
  • Design and implement an M&E system in close cooperation with the global initiative
