Sino-German Crop Production and Agrotechnology Park 4th Field Day and Signing Ceremony of the Implementation Agreement for the 2nd Project Phase
Since August 2015, AFC together with its long-standing partner, DLG International is implementing the “Sino-German Crop Production and Agrotechnology Park”, a project, financed under the Economic Cooperation Programme of the German Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).
During the 4th field day on 29th and 30th of May at the project location on the Huanghai Farm (part of the SKIAD Holding) in Jiangsu Province, approx. 400 visitors could learn about the results of the demonstrations and trials, the project team together with the Chinese colleagues have implemented during the last three years. Next to the Chinese and German project partners and interested guests from other farms, institutions and universities from the region and from Beijing, visitors included also representatives from the Chinese and German Ministries of Agriculture.
Results from the demonstrations and trials have shown that with the introduction of new crop rotations, reduction of inputs, and here especially seed, fertilizer and chemicals, an improvement of soil fertility and reduction of production costs, while – at the same time – keeping or even increasing the level of harvest results - can be achieved, even with the difficult soil and climatic condition in the region. New crops such as rape, soybeans, maize and broccoli were introduced in the crop rotation to break the traditional system of wheat/barley and paddy rice production, practiced on the farm since 50 years and which had led to deteriorating soil conditions and problems for the environment.
With the modern agricultural machinery and inputs from our private business partners, first results of improved soil conditions through more conserving soil preparation and a reduction in the production costs are now visible and the Chinese project partners are now interested to introduce some of the innovations developed on the project fields, on other farms of the SKIAD Holding.
The project’s private agribusiness partners (Amazone, BASF, Bayer Crop Science, Claas, Deutz-Fahr, Horsch, Lemken, Müthing, Pöttinger, Rauch and Syngenta) could display their machines and products that were used for the trials. Different stations were prepared by the project team to show a number of trials, incl. seed variety trials, different seed rates and fertilizer applications, different soil preparation methods, direct sowing and mulching effects, etc.
The official opening of the field day included a ceremony for the signature of the project implementation agreement by all partners for phase 2 of the project, which is currently under preparation and will start in August 2018.
