Another page has been added to AFCs long standing and successful engagement in Ghana with the GIZ financed project “Green Innovation Center for the Agriculture and Food Sector”, which was awarded to AFC in September 2015 and has started operations in November.

The objective of this project is to enhance the identification and implementation of innovations along the maize, rice and pineapple value chains in up to six regions of the country, targeting agricultural smallholdings and up- and downstream agribusinesses.

Core elements of implementation will be the set-up and management of a 2 Mio. Euro matching grant fund, the capacity development of public and private service providers as well as the facilitation of innovation partnerships between the Ghanaian and the German private agricultural and agribusiness sector.

The project will run until December of 2017 with a staff of 3 national long-term experts and an international team leader. It forms part of the global initiative „One World with-out Hunger“, launched by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in 2014 with the aim of promoting innovations along agricultural value chains.

AFC is already implementing projects related to this global initiative in Mali, Nigeria and India.
