Improve Access to Financial Services in Rural Areas

Objectives:

Building on CGAPs global API experience, the objectives of each API project are to:

1. Introduce the principles of human-centered design to the branchless banking provider and identify insights on how the process of HCD can work most effectively in the context of smallholder farmers;
2. Identify insights into the financial services needs of smallholder families (including needs not related to agricultural production) and how effectively those needs are currently being met;

Horticulture Development Project (HDP)

The Horticulture Development Project (HDP) is aimed at assisting the Government of Uzbekistan to improve the productivity, profitability and competitiveness of the horticulture sector. The objectives of the project are to be achieved through

(i) provision of agriculture support services to bridge the knowledge and experience gap related to new production, storage, post-harvest handling, and marketing knowledge and experience in the

country;

Moldova Agricultural Competitiveness Project (MACP)

The Republic of Moldova has received financing from the World Bank toward the cost of the Moldova Agricultural Competitiveness Project, and intends to apply part of the proceeds for consulting services.

National Water Resources Management Project

The proposed Project Development Objective is to enhance water resources management and irrigation service delivery for the benefit of water users and the nation as a whole.

La Fédération des Caisses Populaires du Burkina, FCPB, qui est l’organe faîtier du réseau des caisses populaires du Burkina Faso, ou Réseau des Caisses Populaires du Burkina, RCPB)a signé un accord de partenariat avec l’Initiative AgriFin, financée par la Fondation Bill et Melinda Gates et administrée par la Banque mondiale à son siège de Washington DC. Dans le cadre de l’Initiative, la FCPB bénéficie d’une subvention de contrepartie afin d’élargir sa clientèle et d’améliorer les résultats de son activité de crédit agricole.

Index-Based Livestock Insurance Project

The Government of Mongolia has received financing from the World Bank toward the cost of the Index-Based Livestock Insurance Project ("the Project"), and intends to apply part of the proceeds for consulting services.

The consulting services ("the Services") include conducting an impact assessment of the Project pilot activities through its development and offering of index based livestock mortality insurance to herding households.

Irrigation and Drainage Improvement - Kazakhstan

The Committee for Water Resources of the Ministry of Agriculture (CWR of MOA) of the Republic of Kazakhstan intends to jointly finance with the World Bank the "Second Irrigation and Drainage Improvement Project" (IDIP-2). The project responds to the GOK's strategy to accelerate improving irrigated land due to reduction demands and effective use of irrigated water.

Agriculture Finance Support in Uganda

The Centenary Bank is a Commercial Bank in Uganda with an asset base of US$377 million. Centenary Bank provides financing to all sectors of the economy, but focuses on the micro- and small-scale enterprises. It has an active portfolio of US$35 million that has been lent to the agricultural sector.

Study on Climate Resilient Agriculture and Food Security in Nepal

The IFC Advisory Services in South Asia is implementing the Climate Resilient Agriculture/Agribusiness Project through the Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR) in Nepal. The Project will pilot adaptive agricultural products, practices and technologies to increase the productivity of vulnerable resource poor farmers and offset climate change impact thereby contributing to food security. The project will focus on climate resilient and high yielding variety (HYV) seeds and the other agriculture inputs like water management, access to information and access to agri finance.
