More than 85% of Ugandans live in rural areas. Despite this, agriculture contributes only 22% of Uganda’s overall domestic production, and food production barely satisfies the demand of the rapidly growing population. However, according to the 2016 Poverty Assessment, Uganda has reduced monetary poverty at a very rapid rate. The proportion of the Ugandan population living below the national poverty line declined from 31.1% in 2006 to 19.7% in 2013.
Togo's agricultural sector is poorly developed. The agricultural productivity of the country is low, market access inadequate and the rural population persists in traditional behaviour patterns. In addition to primary producers, there are only a few smaller artisanal agricultural processing enterprises in rural areas. In the primary production, there are small enterprises and production groups. Women are particularly disadvantaged in their productive role.
In the context of high economic growth, Nigeria's key challenge is to make its growth more inclusive. Despite the rapid growth, direct indicators of social welfare, such as poverty levels, have shown limited improvement. Given the fact that Nigeria’s population is growing significantly, improving access to finance for housing is vital. Informal housing is most prevalent as more than 80% of the population lives in unplanned settlements with poor living conditions.
