German-Thai cooperation project to promote sustainable development of cluster farms in Thailand

The on-going project aims to strengthen so-called cluster farms in terms of their economic efficiency and production methods and, based on this, to contribute to structural improvements in the agricultural sector in Thailand in the medium term. Based on analyses in selected cluster farms, medium-term development concepts or strategies for cluster farms will be designed, which will lead to an improvement in farm management, an increase in production efficiency and sustainability of farming and ultimately to positive economic effects for the farms. Based on these development concepts, an adapted integral extension concept for cluster farms will be developed and implemented on selected pilot cluster farms in different provinces of Thailand. The experience gained in implementing the extension concept at the decentralized level should enable conclusions to be drawn for improving the agricultural extension system as a whole. In order to achieve structural improvements for the agricultural sector, these are to be made accessible to stakeholders and decision-makers from agricultural administration, politics and agricultural extension.

Accordingly, the approach chosen to achieve the objectives is based on a technical dialogue that combines practice-oriented elements with a dialogue approach at the central level.
