Project Coordinator for AFC Agriculture and Finance Consultants in Kenya
Agriculture & Finance Consultants GmbH (AFC) is a private German consulting firm focusing on agriculture/agribusiness and financial sector development projects in developing and transition countries (https://www.afci.de/). We employ almost 50 permanent staff members at our headquarters in Bonn/Germany and on average contract 50 long-term and more than 350 short-term consultants throughout the year implementing projects for various donor organizations (e.g. ADB, AFD, EBRD, EIB, EU, GIZ, KfW, World Bank). AFC is a member of GOPA Consulting Group, Germany's largest group of consulting firms in development cooperation.
On behalf of the European Investment Bank, AFC has been implementing the “Eastern and Central Africa Technical Assistance Programme” since 2014 in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania. The project focuses on capacity building and technical assistance to various financial institutions in the region with the aim of improving access to finance for medium and small enterprises (MSMEs) and thereby creating employment (http://www.ta-eca.eu/).
The project will effectively run until May 2020. For the purpose of supporting the project implementation on-site we are looking for a
The Project Coordinator’s main responsibilities lie in:
- Assisting the Team Leader and AFC key staff in the project region
- Project monitoring: supporting the post-training monitoring of financial institutions and project’s final beneficiaries
- Data collection of project indicators and analysis
- support in creating marketing material and designing of reports and lessons learnt
- Support of training and capacity building activities:
- Liaise with partner banks and key-experts in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania & Rwanda
- Support in-coming short-term experts
- support the training preparation and post-monitoring
- be the main focal point for the implementation of financial literacy trainings in Kenya
- Project administration:
- support the budget control of the project cash box and project finances on site
- meeting facilitation
- be the main contact person for local staff members and their task distribution
- Support in preparation of quarterly and biannual reporting requirements to the donor
- Supporting in acquisition activities in East Africa, including fact finding missions and feasibility studies
- University Degree (Master) in a relevant area (economics, business administration, international management, development studies, economic sociology or related fields)
- Experience in the context of development cooperation, preferably in the financial sector (e.g. through internships with donor organizations)
- Strong interest in monitoring and evaluation and ideally first working experience with data collection (e.g. through internships or university jobs)
- Working experience in developing countries, in particular in (Eastern) Africa
- Full proficiency in written and spoken English and German, French would be an asset
- Strong writing and communications skills, ability to act pragmatically and proactively
