The main objective of the project is to improve the supply of farms and agri-based enterprises in selected regions of Nigeria with financial services adapted to their business models (see Outcome in section 3.2).
The direct target group of the project are farms and agri-based enterprises mainly in the selected VCs of the GV GIAE (rice, maize, cassava and potato) and in the VCs of the two regional projects CARI and SSAB (rice and cocoa), which have access to technical advice and markets for their agricultural products, but with little or no access to adapted financial services. Actors that perform other important functions in the agricultural VCs, such as agro input dealers, and marketing and processing companies play an important role as well.
Key tasks:
- As Team leader assume overall responsibility for the commission in Nigeria
- Responsible for the implementation of the three project components
- Responsible for the development and/or adjustment of capacity building measures
- Networking and building cooperation with the project partners on the demand and supply side
- Overall coordination of project activities with key stakeholders and ensuring transparency for the partner
- Identifying the need for short-term expert assignments within the available budget, planning and steering the assignments
- Supporting local and international short-term experts and monitoring service delivery (quality assurance)
- Bearing accountability for planning and efficient use of resources and being responsible for carrying out checks on the use of funds (in close coordination with the GIZ Coordinator of GV AgFin)
- Developing and applying operations plan and M&E plan
- Monitoring and documenting work progress and achievement of results according to M&E plan
- Contributing to knowledge management
- Responsibility for the preparation and submission of project reports
- Supporting evaluation missions and the preparation of a follow-up phase, if demanded by GIZ
- Ensuring the connectivity of the AgFin project management in Nigeria with established GIZ approaches by applying the Capacity WORKS Management Model
Profile:
- University degree in agriculture, economics, finance or related fields
- At least 10 years of experience as team leader of larger implementation projects
- Minimum of 7 years professional experience in agricultural finance
- Profound expertise with regard to agro-economics and financial sector development
- Good knowledge of agricultural value chain development in Africa in general, and preferably experience in Nigeria
- Working experience in Nigeria and/or countries in West Africa with similar socio-economic conditions
- Experience working for international development agencies is required
- Proficient English skills are required (at least C1- level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), good German language skills are an asset (at least B2-level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
- Highly team-oriented
- Good knowledge of the GIZ Capacity WORKS management model.
All long-term experts are expected to commence their assignment in Nigeria by November 5th, 2018. The project will terminate by July 31st , 2022 (contract period).
