The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) mandated the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH with the implementation of the global program ‘Promotion of nutrition-sensitive potato value chains in East Africa’. The project runs from 01/2016 to 06/2021 in two countries, namely Kenya and Uganda. In Kenya the implementation has already begun whereas the implementation for Uganda is planned to begin in October 2017.
Key tasks:
- Responsibility for the day to day business
- Leader of the agricultural and the sector coordination component of the project
- Coordination of the overall implementation of the three components
- Main contact person for partners and other stakeholders in the project area
- Facilitation of the cooperation among stakeholders
- Provision of guidance for other national staff employed by the project
Qualifications:
Profile:
- University degree in agronomy or agricultural economics
- At least 10 years of professional experience in implementing agricultural projects
- Professional experience in Uganda and/or countries in East Africa with similar socioeconomic conditions
- Work experience on topics related to the Irish potato value chain (e.g. GAP, training of farmers (ToT approach, FBS, storage, seed multiplication etc.) is required
- Proficient knowledge in English is required (at least C1- level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
- Knowledge of local languages (e.g. Masaaba) is a prerequisite
