Nigeria_“Strengthening capacities to resolve conflict between farmers and herders in Nigeria’s Middle Belt” (COREFHE)

Ongoing conflicts between farmers and cattle herders in Central Nigeria have left several people killed and displaced over the past twenty years. The states of Nigeria’s Middle Belt - Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, Taraba and the southern part of Adamawa - are particularly affected. Displacement and a general sense of insecurity impact on agriculture and livestock farming. Agricultural value chains are disrupted, and the rural population’s self-sufficiency capacities are diminished.

In line with tasks, responsibilities and milestones listed under Chapter 2, the expert will

  • Closely work with the project leader to identify support needs and reach a common understanding of interventions to be planned
  • Develop a manual of context - specific resource-use conflict resolution processes
  • Develop the Capacity Development Strategy of the COREFHE program
  • Develop the Stakeholder Analysis of the COREFHE project
  • Provide documentation of all workshops
  • Report in English on implemented support measures, observations and strategic recommendations regarding project activities, stakeholder involvement, partnerships, achievements, and team
  • Set up in close cooperation with the project’s advisor a database containing a comprehensive Context Monitoring System in line with GIZ recommendations for result based monitoring (RBM)
Qualifications: 
  • University qualification in Political Science and / or Geography and / or Land Use Planning and / or Peace and Development Work and / or Peace and Conflict
  • Proficient English language skills (C2)
  • 8 years of professional experience in the field of conflict transformation / peace building interventions in the context of fragility, rural development, livelihoods;
  • 6 years of experience in the field of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms; 2 reference projects in developing training curricula and interactive moderation plans for capacity development activities in the field of “land use conflict mediation”;
  • 3 years of experience in projects in Sub Sahara Africa, of which work experience in 1 project or consultancy in Nigeria, Kenya or Kameron in the field of the farmer – herder conflict
  • 10 years of working experience in the international development context, whereof at least 5 years in the field of rural development, conflict transformation and / or governance
  • Participation in 5 days Capacity WORKS training course; 3 years of work experience in designing and implementing seminars for adult learners in a participative and interactive way; 2 years of work experience in the field of Result Based- and Context Monitoring

The project is designed to be implemented over a four- year period (010/2019 – 09/2023).
