Promotion of export oriented value chains in Tunisia

The Project will improve the sustainability of the selected value chains (dried) apricots and aromatic and medicinal plants. This will be achieved through a series of processes, beginning with a brief analysis of the value chains, followed by strategic planning and the implementation of collaborative projects for regional development of the value chains. As part of these collaborative projects, AFC/IDC facilitates support for relevant themes of the PAD programme, such as the inclusion of women and youth, the promotion of sustainability and quality, and the access to export markets. In addition, the consortium assures the follow-up of collaborative projects and facilitates the networking of the actors involved. This will also facilitate the scaling up of gained experiences and know-how to other value chains and regions in Tunisia.

Activities:

  • Analysis/diagnostic of the value chains according to the ValueLinks approach
  • Preparation of action plans / strategic planning for the development of the value chains
  • Establishment and promotion of local platforms (cluster) for the development of collaborative projects
  • Organisation of trainings for the executive and administrative bodies of the platforms/cluster
  • Support to the platform / cluster members in the planning and implementation of collaborative projects
  • Specific support for the inclusion of women and youth (for ex. gender analysis for each VC, support to women’s groups in the implementation of collaborative projects, sensitisation, promotion of the establishment of youth groups within existing platforms/cluster)
  • Facilitating quality and sustainability standards in value chains (for ex. organisation of information workshops at platform/cluster level, training of GDA/SMSA members in Good Agricultural Practices, facilitation of services to accompany the implementation of certification standards,…)
  • Facilitating trade relations with international markets (for ex. market studies in Europe for Tunisian products, preparation and support of Tunisian delegations for fair visits, organisation of individual “B2B” events,…)
  • Support networking of local platforms and their members
