AFC organised a successful study tour for a Malian Delegation to the Agritechnica held in Hannover this year from the 9th to the 13th of November. The delegation was composed of both rice and potato actors (farmers, advisors and university research staff) as well as agricultural machinery experts (private company, ministry advisor). The focus was on identifying technologies which would be transferrable to Mali in order to boost potato and rice production and processing. The delegation was given guided tours of a number of stands such as Claas, Pöttinger, Netafim, AGCO (including Massey Ferguson) and Europlant. In addition to visiting the Agritechnica the delegation also had the opportunity to spend day learning more about potato seed production by visiting Europlant’s laboratory and multiplication centre, as well as an associated farm and a state of the art potato storage and processing unit. On the final day of the visit the delegation visited DEULA Nienburg in order to discuss practical training of farmers and agricultural experts. Many contacts were established between the Malian and German actors and we hope that this is the beginning of a fruitful future collaboration.
