Programme for Sustainable Economic Development

Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) form the backbone of the Ghanaian economy. They make up about 85% of the enterprises nonetheless more than half of them consider the lack of access to finance as the biggest obstacle to their business growth.

In view of this hampered development, AFC started implementing three new projects in fall this year that aim to promote financial sector soundness and access to financial services by individuals.

Ghana belongs to the group of lower middle-income countries. In the last decade, the country has experienced stable economic growth, accompanied by a reduction in the poverty rate. In 2016, about 13 % of the population lived on less than USD 1.90 per day. An additional 3.8 million people are expected to fall into poverty, at least temporarily, as a result of the Corona crisis.

Experts in various Sectors to support the Reform Partnership with the Development Bank Ghana

The implementation of the accompanying measure will significantly support the successful establishment of DBG’s business model as the national development bank in the Ghanaian market. The project as such combines three areas of intervention: 

Training and capacity building at DBG
Due to the specific tasks and the associated product range, there will be a high need for training for new employees. The consulting services financed under the complementary measure are intended to meet this need.
