Promotion of economic and rural development in disadvantaged regions; Field of action "Set up and structuring demand-oriented extension services“

The programme “Promotion of economic and rural development in disadvantaged regions” is embedded into the German Government’s special initiative “Stabilization and Development in the Middle East and North Africa”. The expected outcome of the programme is to improve the economic performance of the local population in the provinces of Ouarzazate, Midelt, Tinghir, Tata, and Zagora. These five provinces which are partly located in the High Atlas mountains belong to the poorest provinces of the country.

Soil Conservation and Rehabilitation

The Goal of the Project is Sustainable approaches to broad-based soil conservation and rehabilitation supported.

Activities to be provided

         ► Situation analysis and selection of pilot areas

Identify and analyse relevant stakeholders in the three pilot counties

  • Organize kick-off workshop at county level;
  • Identify and analyse stakeholders in soil conservation issues and their networks;

Conduct study analysing the use of resources in selected watersheds

Global project on soil protection and rehabilitation of degraded soil for food security

Module objective: Sustainable approaches to the large-scale promotion of soil conservation and rehabilitation of degraded soils are realised in selected regions of Burkina Faso.

Module A: Techniques for water conservation and soil fertility increase are an inherent part of the production systems of the rural actors operating in the treated watersheds.

Activities

The global project acts in three fields of intervention, of which GOPA concerns itself uniquely of the first one.

Programme on Sustainable Economic Development - Improved Framework and Finance for Private Sector Development” (FFPSD)

Objectives: Economic growth increases and is more inclusive: Improved framework conditions for economic activities contribute to increased investments and raised income.

► Makro level

  • Advice the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT), the State Committee for State Investment and State Property, and the Ministry of Agriculture in the introduction and implementation of methods and instruments for rural economic development focused on SMEs business development services;
  • Support to public-private dialogue

► Meso level

Financial Literacy in Usbekistan

The program “Inclusive and Ecological Economic Development in Selected Regions of Uzbekistan” builds upon the previous program. The program duration is from 10/2009 to 12/2017. The strategic approach aimes at local/regional economic development in the pilot regions and advisory services at different intervention levels stays the same in the current phase (Nov. 2014-Oct. 2017).

Wirtschaftsförderung und ländliche Entwicklung in benachteiligten Gebieten Marokkos

Das Königreich Marokko befindet sich derzeit im Umbruch. Auf die Forderungen nach stärkerer politischer Teilhabe und wirtschaftlicher Gerechtigkeit, die im Rahmen des „arabischen Frühlings“ in Nordafrika laut wurden, hat das Land mit Reformen reagiert. Nun gilt es, diese Maßnahmen nachhaltig umzusetzen und eine wirtschaftliche Grundlage zu schaffen, die allen Bevölkerungsteilen des Landes zugutekommt. Bislang sind insbesondere die ländlichen Provinzen Marokkos vom wirtschaftlichen Wachstum, das in den dynamischen Regionen an der Küste und im Norden des Landes stattfindet, ausgeschlossen.
